Moms and Tots

Disclaimer: very toddler oriented posting!

I've just returned from our 4th session of Moms and Tots. It's great fun for the kiddies and I think it's really fab for James to be exposed to the other little munchkins.I don't know if I've written about it before, but James has taken a little step backwards in terms of dealing with other kids. If you think about it, suddenly all the little kids from both his regular playgroups in Seattle have disappeared and it must be quite strange and disconcerting for the little guy.

Anyway, last week I had rather a frustrating time at the M & T class. James was terribly clingy and even when they did things like clapping hands, jumping (which he normally LOVES) and popping bubbles, he didn't join in at all. Of course I was supportive of his feelings at the time, but gee whiz...I was the only Mommy doing the teddy bear jumps and going round and round like a mad bat! WHen I got home, I tried to put it into perspective. I'm so outgoing and just love the interaction and I think I sort of expect James to take after me. Wrong, I know. I thought that after 2 or 3 sessions he would have settled down and felt more comfortable. Anyway, we live and learn as parents every single day.

So, today was a much better day. He caught bubbles, kissed the monkey hand puppet hello and goodbye and felt a little more at ease. He is also learning that there are times to play with toys and times to sing and listen -very difficult for a monkey toddler.

James always comes home beaming and so proud of his art work. He always runs to my Mom and holds up the piece and says "Wook, Anna, WOW!" The art is then dutifully stuck on the wall or notice board in the kitchen.

It was also a brilliant day for Mommy's emotional development as I met a great lady at the class. It was her first day - she has a 2 year old and a 4 month old and moved into the area in November. She drives an elderly Renault Scenic (just like me) and can you believe it, is a journalist by profession. She is madly searching for other stay-at-home Moms to socialize with. Yay! Instant connection and I am beaming too.

In other unrelated news, the house is not progressing so well. Carpenter and builder are fighting about who is to blame for a certain error with the sliding door. And the birth of baby draws ever nearer...

So glad James is starting to settle in with the Moms and Tots - it definitely takes time for the little guys to adjust!

James will settle in eventually. Jason is the same. It takes him a while to warm up to new things.

I'm SO glad you made a new friend. Friends are just SO important
