Zooom zoom zooom.... (for lack of a better title) :)
Hello faithful readers,
I have just registered to have a baby! We need to get pre-authorisation here from our medical aid before they will cover the costs. I also need to register at the hospital this week - 28 weeks already. I still can't quite believe it. I have hardly had time to think about the pregnancy, but oh dear, I saw a little girly outfit today - little jean skirt, with a pink top and little white sleeveless sweater with different colour hearts on it. I was sucked in...just can't think of putting a minute baby into something like that though, however gorgeous it was! I also had my scan this week and everything is progressing well. We get to go for a 3-D scan in a few weeks - one of the perks of having the baby at the hospital I'm going to. Rein is going to try to come to the appointment too. He has not been able to see the new one at all or hear the heartbeat, which is always such an exciting thing.
I have been trying to make a concerted effort since coming back from holiday to inject myself back into "Mommy society". I have seen many more of my friends and have joined a "Moms and Tots" group in our area. I feel much better now that James is being exposed to kiddies of his own age again, as much as he enjoys the adoration of his Grandparents.
Our trip to Hermanus now seems a bit hazy already. We all had an absolute ball and wish that holidays could last forever~!
James is growing like a weed, has abandoned his neon white status and has a tiny bit of colour in his arms and legs. He looks so healthy. He is working on numbers at the moment and it is so strange for me to contemplate this little boy who was so disinterested in anything like that suddenly counting his fingers and the mountains around us etc etc. Quite exciting! I guess they all reach the stage when a specific learning just clicks. I actually attribute it to Dora - not the TV show - but the book that Zoe gave James for his birthday. We have been reading it on demand every night for AGES now.... We try like mad to have a change and I even made a bold move of going to the public library here to get some more inspiration - to no avail!
Anyway, one last comment before signing off. On my trip to the Ekurheleni (formerly the East Rand) library, I offered my services to organize a "Toddler Storytime" similar to the ones at Redmond library. The libraries are not as ghastly as what I had anticipated and have such a nice selection of books for all of us. But there is no funding for activities like storytime there. I thought that perhaps I'd read 3 books and sing 3 activity songs - it'll take about 30 minutes or so and that's that!! They were going to arrange a coordination meeting with the head librarian, so once that's done I'll have more to report.
Fondest to you all. Rein is visiting Seattle for a conference on July 22-29, provided baby #2 is ok...so hopefully he'll be able to catch up with some of you. I am already giving him a list of things to get ie shoes for James - he's going to be shopping for me most of the time! :) Oh yes, one question - NO toothpaste available here for toddlers that can be swallowed safely. How did you guys get your kids to spit toothpaste properly?

Very good of you to volunteer for story time
Love that you are voluntering for the story time. Our library is in SUCH a bad part of town, that we can't even go there :(
About teaching them to spit. DO it in the bath. Take a cup with and make it fun. Let him take a sip and try to squirt the water to you.
